The Parrottsville Lutherans Parish support a variety of local non-profit organizations, including:
The Bread Basket – located in Newport, TN, this is an organization which collects and distributes food to anyone in need that walks into the building. Parish Members who volunteer a great part of their time are: Bill & Sharon Seneker, Steve & Emma Balch, Montye Neas, and many others.
Appalachian Helping Hands – us a non-profit interdenominational ministry of congregations in Greene County and Cocke County, TN, which was organized to help those who are in need of clothing, food, and household goods. It is housed in the St. James Community Center, 3220 Saint James Rd, Greeneville, TN. It is open on Thursday and Saturday mornings from 9:00 – noon. There is also a food distribution on the 4th Thursday of each month from 9:30 – 10:30 am. AHH’s director is Sharon Seneker from Salem Lutheran Church. Many other members from this parish volunteer regularly helping others through this ministry. The two churches donate money regularly as well as hold several fund-raising events for this ministry.
Assistance has also been given to the Boys and Girls Club of Cocke County, Habitat for Humanity, Baptist Convalescent Center, and to local families in need.
Contributions also have been given to the ELCA World Hunger and Disaster Fund for the impoverished in Haiti, to the local Gideons organization, and to the Empower Cocke County Organization.
